FL! 080615 Father's Day

It's father's day so naturally the Fandom Live! team took time to acknowledge the often unacknowledged, under-appreciated presence in our lives - dad! Check out the famous dads (fictional of course) who made it on the Fandom Best Dad list.

Naturally, you may have your own idea of who should have taken home the trophy. That is our question of the week. Who do you think is the best dad (science fiction or fantasy character)? Feel free to leave a comment here or email us at live@fandomcafe.com.

Enjoy the show and we hope to see you next week!

Star Trek Moment in Numb3rs

I absolutely love it when I watch any TV show or movie and a Star Trek reference is used. In this case, it's in the episode of Numb3rs titled Checkmate - yup, I'm still catching up to the latest episode of the series, slowly but surely.

Anyway, Megan Reeves (Diana Farr) walks in and says if the scene was like when Kirk is away, Bones and Spock take over (referring to Amita [Navi Rawat] and Larry [Peter Mac Nicol]). Larry replies no, and proceeds to list the chain of command in TOS.

Hope to catch more references.

LSS... Sort Of

We were preparing for the next Fandom Live! episode and it was driving me batty that I couldn't remember the title of that reality TV show I watched way back. I knew it was a fighting competition and it had amateur martial artists competing. There were three masters and it was set in china. Other than that, I had very little recall. FRUSTRATING!

I finally found it. It was called fight school. Go figure. At least I finally found it. Now I am happy . Next!

Take A Bow

You know how it is sometimes, that you hear a song and it gets stuck in your mind? You've never heard it before but the lyrics get stuck in your mind? Well, that's what happened to me when I heard the intro of this song. I just had to learn this song.

I posted the mp3 in my music section and here are the lyrics of the song plus the video from you tube for those who are interested.

Rihanna Take A Bow Lyrics
How bout a round of applause?
Standin ovation...
Ooooh
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

You look so dumb right now
Standin' outside my house
Tryin' to apologize
You're so ugly when you cry
(Please)
Just cut it out

Don't tell me you're sorry cuz you're not
Baby when I know you're only sorry you got caught

But you put on quite a show
You really had me goin'
But now it's time to go
Curtains finally closin'
That was quite a show
Very entertainin'
But it's over now
Go on and take a bow

Grab your clothes and get gone
(You better hurry up)
Before the sprinklers come on
Talkin' bout "Girl, I love you you're the one..."
This just looks like a re-run
(Please)
What else is on?

And don't tell me you're sorry cuz you're not
Baby when I know you're only sorry you got caught

But you put on quite a show
You really had me goin'
But now it's time to go
Curtains finally closin'
That was quite a show
Very entertainin'
But it's over now
Go on and take a bow

And the award for the best liar goes to you
For makin' me believe
That you could be
Faithful to me
Let's hear your speech
oh...

How bout a round of applause?
Standin' ovation...

But you put on quite a show
You really had me goin'
But now it's time to go
Curtains finally closin'
That was quite a show
Very entertainin'
But it's over now
Go on and take a bow

But it's over now...

It's For Men

soaps.jpgThe company I work for recently brought in visitors from a company that makes and sells products for dermatology. Their name - Dermailine! Hmmm... they must have noticed how our skin is now in need of TLC. Now this was a free consultation with little giveaways and of course their hope that we would be willing to buy some products of theirs. Since the product on sale was good yet not expensive, yes, most of us got at least 1.

"What did they have?" you ask. Soap! All kinds of soap. Soap to make you whiter. Soap to even out your skin - pigmentation I think was the word she used. Soap for those who are older and need more moisture. BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!

There was also a table full of other products for sale. Sunblocks, astringents, creams, and ... a masculine wash! Now, I know marketing has been going for differentiating the products for men from that for women - reverse of the 80's unisex trend - but this ...I just had to laugh.

I guess this came to mind because as I listened to the RX DJ's talking about the latest product of their sponsor - a feminine wash that's supposedly cool - I could actually hear this guy rolling his eyes or trying to get this segment over as quickly as possible. Uncomfortable topic for men apparently. What would he say to a wash of his own I wonder. At the rate things are going, men will have as big a kikay kit as we women do - less the stuff for menstruating since unless a miracle happens, men won't need that.

It Makes My Day!

I thought today wouldn't be so good. I was rushing from the time I woke up and felt I had so much to do and no time to do it. Doing any overtime still wouldn't give me the necessary time to get those reports done since there were other more urgent matters that needed to be accomplished. Ah the juggling act of important, urgent and what can be done later. I miss my Franklin planner. Oh well....

Anyway, what made my day? Hearing someone say, "You did great!" especially when they weren't very cooperative to start with. To know that you put a smile on someone's face when they were expecting to have a tough time and you made it easy; that little pat on the back makes a long shift seem light and just makes me happy to make a difference - small though it may be.

FL! 050408 Many Many More

After watching the movie, naturally Fandom Live! had to talk about Ironman so we had WeView today. I wonder if anyone (or everyone) agreed with our ratings?

There were also some TV updates courtesy of Tobie, as well as gaming updates from Mark.

Do watch the show. Feel free to leave comments and we'll look forward to chatting with you on the next show

Education: It Costs!

A lot of people think it is tough to give birth and I agree! I also tell them it is far harder to raise the child after they come out. Aside from keeping them healthy and happy, there are the expenses for their daily needs. A few years later, the cost of education rears its ugly head. Ouch!

In this country, education is not free. If you want your kid to get places here, they must go to a good school - and these schools cost. There are quite a number to choose from and not all of them charge like they think money just falls from the trees. But again, the simple truth is, they still cost; quite a bit. Usually at a minimum of about P25,000 (anything less is probably a little known school out of the main areas of the city).

Speaking as a single parent, it really isn't easy. It isn't easy even if you aren't a single mom, so you can imagine how much tougher it is when you are. Your salary that should be enough sometimes isn't. You find yourself having to stretch the budget to its thinnest to cover the essentials, what more this? Yet, we as good parents know that this cannot be left undone. So where, oh where, to find the means.

I found myself thinking that if money were as easy to make as it is in neopets where all you have to do is play a few games, man! we'd all be filthy rich. No more financial worries.

Sigh...prayers, faith, hard work and keeping the eyes open for opportunites. That's all we can do.

Do We Need Another Hero?

Three more days and the Ironman movie is about to show. Makes me wonder, do we really need another hero? It seems like it has been one cuper hero or comic book hero after another coming up on either the big screen or boob tube. There's even a show titled Heroes

I have to admit that I'm looking forward to the movie but I wonder when new ideas will come out from Hollywood. I kinda feel like Tina Turner singing "We Don't Need Another Hero". Then again, we need people to inspire us sometimes so we do need heores, it's just not all of them are endowed with super human abilities.

That reminds me. The Ironman tagline is interesting. "Heroes aren't born. They're built". For more Ironman talk, do watch the Ironman episode of Fandom Live!

We'd love to hear your answer to the question that Nick posed in the show. Just send in your answer to live@fandomcafe.com or visit us at fandomlive.multiply.com. Looking forward to hearing from you.

The Danger of Window Shopping

Why would you shop for windows? hehehehe....funny! Women love to shop. When they can't buy what they want yet, they look in alll the windows and go through the collections but don't necessarily buy - hence window shopping. In short, just looking.

Problem is, when you window shop you are still being tempted to buy. Then you come across a sale...and there are some really cool stuff on display... Danger! Wallet alert! The window shopping is over and you have actually bought stuff you didn't plan to get or need yet.

It's still fun to look though and it is always great to hang out with the girls and compare choices. Who knows, the bargain you find may really be worth breaking the budget.

Rambling

You ever had the experience where you look at someone and you just see that they are wrapped in sadness? I had that experience. I like this person so my natural inclination is to approach and try to help alleviate the sadness, even for just a moment. THAT can be difficult though. Imagine approaching a porcupine and trying to hug it when all the spines are really puffed up. Nope, not a masochist.

It just got me thinking, when no one is looking, do I project an aura of happiness? sadness? Or do I just look like my usual sleepy self?

Distress By De-stressing

My office mate brought to work a small toy that he said his ten year old put together quickly. It was a snake puzzle that forms a 3x3x3 cube. The ego naturally thought that well, if a 10 year old could solve it then it should be easy, right? My co-worker was nice enough to leav me the puzzle so I could figure it out.

And now here I sit at the end of my day and I still haven't solved it. A lesson in patience and logic! I know that I will figure it out but in the meantime I am driving myself crazy with this toy.
